Evidence from the field.

Photogrammetric acquisition on the Notre-Dame de Paris construction site

NOTRE-DAME DE PARIS

Digitising the medieval vault keystones

Context
Following the Notre-Dame fire, a documentation campaign of architectural elements was carried out at the request of the public institution and scientific team.
Stakes
Vault stones show tool marks, wear and carving traces that are hard to analyse visually. Variable in size, they had to be documented without knowing their original position.
Solution
Custom photogrammetry device, acquisition protocol and automated processing to digitise quickly around one hundred keystones up to 100 kg.
Outcome
  • Corpus of scale 3D models
  • Usable scientific documentation
  • High-precision digital archiving

Photogrammetry campaign before anastylosis of the arcades, Musée du Cloître de Notre-Dame-en-Vaux

CHÂLONS-EN-CHAMPAGNE CLOISTER

Projection mapping and restitution of cloister colours

Context
At the museum’s request, a projection device on cloister sculptures to restitute their medieval polychromy.
Stakes
Make vanished polychromy visible again and mediate architecture now perceived mainly as bare stone.
Solution
High-definition photogrammetry, translation of scientific hypotheses into projectable content, animations and architectural projection on the anastylosis.
Outcome
  • Models and textures for the projected show
  • Animated sequences co-built with the museum
  • Renewed mediation for visitors

SAINT-MICHEL DE CUXA ABBEY

Digitising and restituting the fragmentary rood screen

Context
Two-phase mission on the rood screen: partially preserved arch then expanded corpus of façade fragments.
Stakes
Precisely document scattered fragments and test assembly hypotheses usable by researchers and physical restitution.
Solution
3D photogrammetry, restitution graphics, automated processing chain, 3D prints (1:1 and 1:10) and web anastylosis platform.
Outcome
  • 3D models usable for research
  • Visualisable placement hypotheses
  • Direct bridge between digital and physical reproduction

In situ RTI acquisition in the Pompeii theatre corridor

POMPEII - BRUITS DE COULOIR

Five nights of acquisition for ancient graffiti

Context
In situ campaign in the Pompeii theatre corridor to build homogeneous documentation at very high precision.
Stakes
Read fine incisions and micro-relief on complex walls, with detail level compatible with scientific analysis.
Solution
15,000 photos in 5 nights, dedicated wall RTI device, 2 gigapixel RTI orthophotos and scientific annotation web platform.
Outcome
  • Multi-scale reading of the corridor at millimetre detail
  • Online consultation and annotation of graffiti
  • Structured corpus for study and dissemination
